Case Study 2

  • Sectors:
  • Commercial Training Company
  • Projects:
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 implementation and Migration
  • Employee Internet Management

Challenge

In order to satisfy its newly awarded ‘centre of vocation excellence’ this company needed two new training suites for customers and its offices required a redesign of its entire IT infrastructure. Concerns in the training suite were primarily about providing the most cost-effective and ease of use infrastructure to deliver training in a safe environment. Internet access and email usage also was of high importance, as was quick recovery of the training suites and if necessary rebuilding of one of the training suite PCs should the system fail for any reason.

The Solution - Connectivity

The company required a solution whereby users, trainees and external training consultants could all access the local data.

Recovery

The company required a high level of fault tolerance on both its Admin systems and, more importantly the training system.

Content Filtering

Due to the possible risk of allowing broadband connection to students - both from the stand point of downloading malicious code and browsing unacceptable websites by students, tight control of their internet usage was essential.

Firewall

Protection from both internal and external malicious attacks needed locking down. CETSAT recommended a procedure of lockdown for PCs and the implementation of industry standard firewalls that would also maintain a live link (VPN) between offices.

Ghosting

Workstations in the training suite needed a high degree of fault tolerance to ensure that, should one fail or indeed be corrupted, then the station could be rebuilt and the trainee up and running at the earliest possible point. The two ways CETSAT achieved this was to have a pre-built standby workstation, and secondly all workstations were built with a ghost image retained on the server so that within 30 minutes the workstation could be reinstalled and back up and running for the trainee to use.

Broadband connection remote access for trainers

Trainers working from home and client sites required the ability to give presentations and training courses at those locations. Now using tablet PC and projectors the trainers have full ability to train and advice students on their courses.

Project Management

The company is opening more training suites in the future and wish for these to be project managed so that its management team can concentrate on growing the business whilst CETSAT runs the install and set up of the new offices.
